Billfish

We target billfish including Blue Marlin, White Marlin, and Sailfish during the summer months into fall.

Tuna Fish

In NJ, we target Yellowfin Tuna, Big Eye Tuna, Longfin Tuna (Albecore) and medium Bluefin Tuna in the summer and fall months and Giant Bluefin Tuna in NC when they appear which is generally in the winter months. The other species of Tuna, including Blackfin Tuna, can also be caught during this period.

Swordfish

We target Swordfish during summer and fall months. We typically fish for Swordfish on combination Tuna trips while on overnight chunking trips in the canyons off the NJ and MD coasts.

Mahi

Mahi begin to show up in early spring and can be caught throughout the spring, summer and fall months. Mahi are voracious eaters and will bite on baits and plugs while Tuna and Billfishing. Often we will load up on Mahi swimming around debri or Lobster pots.

Wahoo

We typically catch Wahoo in the summer months off the NJ coast but they may be caught throughout the year in NC. We will target Wahoo in the winter months out of Beaufort Inlet. When the conditions are right, and the bite is on, the Wahoo tend to be much larger in the winter.

Shark

Sharks can be caught throughout the year. In NJ, sharks begin to show up in the spring and may be caught through the fall. They have been quite plentiful in NC throughout the year. While there are a variety of shark species, we principally target Mako and Thresher Sharks which make great table fare.

Striper

Stripers are cooler water fish and peak in the late fall into early winter in Southern NJ waters. They can be caught in the back bays, Delaware Bay and the ocean. The prime time has been mid to late October into
December. Trolling has been the preferred means of Striper fishing in the ocean while chunking has been the norm in the bays.

Knowledgeable Captain

I have fished with Captain John on the Jeannie D for years and if the fish are there, he will find them. He is the most knowledgeable captain I’ve ever fished with. Whether fishing for Stripers, Mahi-Mahi, Yellowfin Tuna, Bigeyes, Giant Bluefin, or Marlin Captain John and the Jeannie D have delivered. The Jeannie D is comfortable, roomy and catches fish. Looking forward to my next trip!

Captain John is in a class of his own.

From the Canyons off New Jersey to the Gulf Stream of the Outer Banks, the  “ Jeannie D “ is no stranger to the fleet.  The boat is outfitted with the latest in electronic navigation, sonar, radar, temperature gauges etc.  she’s a mean fishing machine owned and operated by Captain John Overpeck with over 25 years of experience. The East Coast has its fair share of charter captains, each with their own unique style of fishing.  In my experience Captain John is in a class of his own. What separates Captain John from most charter captains are his intimate knowledge of local and southern waters / charts, his USCG Credentials ( 150 ton Master Captain ), diverse styles of fishing, instinct and pure love of the sport. As a Mate and Captain I’d like to personally thank Captain John for taking the extra time to teach me the many techniques of Giant Bluefin Tuna fishing, tournament fishing and routine boat maintenance.  Each and every trip on the “ Jeannie D “ I learned a new skill, from knot tying to trolling patterns.  I highly recommend Captain John and the “ Jeannie D “ as your 1st choice when planning your next Fishing adventure.  Thank you captain for the opportunity of a lifetime.  It may have been just another beautiful day on the water for you but for me, it was the greatest opportunity a young Mate could ask for.
