We typically catch Wahoo in the summer months off the NJ coast but they may be caught throughout the year in NC. We will target Wahoo in the winter months out of Beaufort Inlet. When the conditions are right, and the bite is on, the Wahoo tend to be much larger in the winter.
Stripers are cooler water fish and peak in the late fall into early winter in Southern NJ waters. They can be caught in the back bays, Delaware Bay and the ocean. The prime time has been mid to late October into December. Trolling has been the preferred means of Striper fishing in the ocean while chunking has been the norm in the bays.
Sharks can be caught throughout the year. In NJ, sharks begin to show up in the spring and may be caught through the fall. They have been quite plentiful in NC throughout the year. While there are a variety of shark species, we principally target Mako and Thresher Sharks which make great table fare.
Mahi begin to show up in early spring and can be caught throughout the spring, summer and fall months. Mahi are voracious eaters and will bite on baits and plugs while Tuna and Billfishing. Often we will load up on Mahi swimming around debri or Lobster pots.
